Q. Why should I join the Military
Products Webring?
A. In a word, HITS. Webrings generate hits for websites with like interests. Webrings are like Yellow Pages for specialty items. In our case, Military Products. Webrings are becoming more and more popular. If you want information on Y2K, you could use a search engine to find hundreds of pages on Y2K, and click back and forth, or you could search the Webring website for a Y2K Webring and there you have only Websites pertaining to your area of interest. Q. How does a Webring work? A. Visitors enter the ring through a "link box" placed on member websites. Once in the ring, it becomes a simple task of navigating through websites linked together that have common themes. Visitors also have the "List" option which will list all websites in a ring for them to review before continuing. "Next 5" and "Next" are the most common choices. Q. What is the criteria to become a member? A. Member Sites must sell military products that are of interest to anyone looking for products with a military theme. In some cases we may allow service oriented websites that would be of interest to Vietnam Vets or Gulf War Vets. For example, those veterans suffering from PTSD, or Gulf War Syndrome. Q. Will you be screening the proposed member sites for content? A. Yes. All sites will be inspected for content to prevent any websites that contain hate, bigotry, anti-social, and / or anti-American content from participating in this Web Ring. Q. Any thoughts on the subject of competitive sites? Might the ring end up with multiple sites offering the same products or services? A. I have visited many military websites and have seen enough variety where I don't believe this will be a major problem. If a browser is determined to find a specific product at the best price, they will find the other websites anyway. What we have joined together to do is expose visitors to the wide variety of military products and services available. If visitors don't make a purchase now, they will remember the webring that brought them to your website. Q. How do you think most customers will enter the ring? A. Search engines and the Webring link box on a member page are two ways. Most likely visitors will enter through the link box placed on our web pages. In addition. if you look around the Master Webring Site and see the number of webrings, add to that the tens of thousands of members in these rings who are all, like us, now concentrating on the link box on our websites, I believe they will also use the webring itself to search for products and services. Most are searching for new webrings they can add to their websites to in order to increase traffic. Q. What if the website before me in the ring does not generate many hits? I have a much less chance of benefiting than a website listed next to a very active website. Who determines the placement? A. At present, our webring is set for "Random," which means that the "Next" hyperlink in the link box will lead visitors to a random website within our ring. This random setting also causes the Master Webring Computer to place a higher priority on those sites in our ring that have the least hits. This gives all members an equal chance at visitors interested in military products who have entered the ring through the link box. It would be nice to be the "Next" website in the ring after a site that generates 1500 hits a day, and be the only one getting extra traffic. However, I feel the random option is the best choice for all members. In addition, new members will begin to benefit immediately after they are placed in the active Webring. Q. What part do key words play in the application? A. The purpose of your key words is to inform the Webring Manager of you choices. These key words, if not already used in the master Webring listing, will be added. Q. Does the Webring search engine find keywords in the listings of individual members of a ring? It doesn't find mine. A. No. The Military Products Webring master listing are the only key words that are indexed. I make every effort to keep the keywords for the Military Products Webring in top order. STATISTICS: After completing a search on just the Keyword
"Military." There are 232 Webrings with Military content. Only 37
